New look for Swim lessons in 2023
In January 2023, The TransAlta Tri Leisure’s Swim Lessons will have a whole new look! The TLC will be transitioning from Red Cross "Swim Kids" to the Lifesaving Society’s "Swim for Life" learn to swim and lifesaving programs.
"When the Red Cross made the announcement, it was a complete shock to all of us in the Aquatics Team at the TLC and all the other swim pools offering lessons across the country," said Jenine Armstrong, Aquatics Supervisor at the TLC.
Last year, the Canadian Red Cross announced that it is winding down its swim and lifeguard programs to focus more on the surging humanitarian demands in other areas – such as disaster and pandemic response, opioid harm reduction and caregiving for seniors.
The Red Cross has been working with the Lifesaving Society to make the transition of all current Red Cross water safety delivery partners, instructors and lifeguards as easy as possible.
Our Aquatics team is sad to see the Red Cross Swim Program go but excited to work with the new lesson program and the Lifesaving Society. The new Swim for Life Program will start being offered in the New Year with the January swimming lessons.
The Lifesaving Society has been teaching Canadians water safety skills for over 100 years and offers a range of programs to help people of all ages and abilities learn to swim (from survival to mastery), teach (leadership programs), save lives, and lifeguard.
