For this upcoming skating season, we have implemented a new rule at the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre(TLC) requiring everyone to wear a helmet when participating in TLC arena activities. This rule change is about safety, and helmets are essential safety gear for ice skating, as they help protect your head from potential injuries.
The new helmet rule applies to all individuals engaging in drop-in arena activities within our facility, regardless of age or skill level. The rule encompasses public skating sessions, ice hockey, and other drop-in skating-related activities, including inline hockey. By requiring helmets, we aim to minimize the risk of head injuries and create a safer environment for everyone involved.
Remember, not all helmets are created equal. We recommend CSA Standard helmets designed specifically for hockey and skating that can handle multiple impacts. By contrast, bike and ski/snowboard helmets must be replaced after a single crash.
Arena activities requiring helmets:
Public Skating: Certified hockey helmets (CSA Standard) are required when on ice for ALL skaters (including ADULTS).
Shinny: Certified hockey helmets (CSA Standard) are required for when on ice for ALL skaters, including adults.
Stick & Puck: Certified hockey helmets (CSA Standard) are required for ALL AGES (full gear not required).
