Hey! My name is Kristen and I’m the Marketing Assistant here at the TLC! I’m also play the role of Mom to my hilarious kiddo, Chester, and today I’m exploring all things awesome that make up the Tri-Active Kids Preschool.
I’ve interviewed Miss Ashley (Chester’s fantastic preschool instructor) in order to get a little better handle on what makes the TLC’s preschool so superb!
K: How long have you been a Preschool Instructor here at the TLC?
Miss Ashley: 3 years now! Click HERE for Miss Ashley’s full bio!
K: What do you love about teaching preschool?
Miss Ashley: The kids! It’s interesting to see their perspectives and all of their excitement.
K: What makes the Tri-Active Kids Preschool stand out from others?
Miss Ashley: The active component is huge (click HERE for activity guidelines for Under 5s.) We have gym and field access everyday and the outdoor areas are fantastic too. I also like that we have minimal parent days, because it allows those wonderful working parents and the super parents with younger children still at home the flexibility of bringing their kids to preschool, without the stress of committing their limited time to volunteering and fundraising.
K: What does a typical day look like for the kids in your class?
Miss Ashley: Well, when we open the doors, we have all of the kids arriving and getting settled (indoor shoes on, coats and bags hung up), at which point they have free play with different toys and manipulative stations in the classroom. Once everyone has had some time to play, we have circle and story time and follow that up with a craft and our snacks. Then, we have some free play before we head out of the classroom for active time. Active time is either on one of the fields, in the gymnasium, outside, or on the rare occasion—the North Central Co-Op Children’s Play Centre. Finally, after about 40 minutes of fun active games, we head back to the classroom for our circle and goodbye time. (Click HERE for a great parent resource from Active for Life with a ton of ideas to get your whole family active this summer!)
K: What are you most looking forward to next year?
Miss Ashley: All the returning kiddos, and getting to learn together with all of the new faces!
K: Thank you so much for your time, Miss Ashley. Enjoy your summer!
